Reverse Engineering Services & 3D Laser Measurement

From design to manufacturing to inspection, having 3D measurement services to create CAD models of the parts you work with provide numerous benefits.  More and more we are forced to embrace a digital world to stay competitive.  For newer products this is not a problem because from the time the part is designed it is being created in a CAD system and drawings are directly linked to the 3D model.  Manufacturing then uses the CAD model for machining or creating molds, etc. and then Quality Control uses the CAD models for inspection.

But what if you are working with a part/mold that does not have a 3D model?  Or what if the part/mold has been altered over the years but the CAD has not been updated?  Maybe you would like to increase production by adding an additional mold for which you do not have a CAD model.  What if the mold you have been using for years/decades finally cracks?
There are many different applications where it is necessary to develop a CAD model from an already created part/mold.  Depending on the shape/size of the part and the accuracy needed, there are different methods needed to create a CAD model.

If your part/mold is made up of mostly “free-form” surfaces, the best method would be scanning.  Depending on the accuracy needed, we can scan the part via 3D laser measurement or a scanning touch probe to collect a 3-Dimensional point cloud.  We then use the point cloud to create a NURBS surface model.  The NURBS surface model can then be used in a CAD/CAM software to create a new part/mold.

If your part/mold is made up of mostly parametric features (planes, cylinders, arcs, etc), it may be best to collect data using a CMM with the needed accuracy and bring that data into a solid-modeling software (such as SolidWorks).  We can then create a parametric solid model.

We can also provide you the 3D measurement services and give you the raw data (planes, cylinders, lines, arcs, etc.) which you can transfer it into your CAD software via an IGES, STEP or DXF file.
